Harpers Ferry National Historical Park

 

Lots of wildlife to see. 
It is nice that the shuttle will drop you off right in 
the historic town. 
We always love the videos that 
the National Parks put together to give you 
the overall history.
It is a short walk to see where the Potomac River and
Shenandoah River converge. 
You can also see three states, Virginia,
West Virginia and Maryland. 
This is where George Washington chose to have an armory.
 Many factories and mills were also located 
in this beautiful area.


The Appalachian Trail, C&O Canal towpath,
Potomac Heritage Trail.
Once again, there is so much history
about Harpers Ferry. If you want to know more,

While we were in the area we stopped at the
 Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National 
Historic Park
to see the locks on the Shenandoah River

and the beautiful 
  Great Falls.
The water levels were down but still a great 
place for a short hike to get out into nature. 
This looks like a natural hot tub to us!

Gettysburg National Military Park Pennsylvania


Another great Harvest Host location only minutes 
away from the battlefield.
It was originally a barn with ventilation
which is now covered in plexiglass.
Then it was used as a field hospital and
now turned into Battlefield Brew Works.
It was neat inside and you could 
smell the old wood.

This is where we started our 24-mile audio auto tour
which took over 3 hours.

This is not just a drive through place.
There is so much to see and do here that
you should plan at least half a day or more. 
We climbed the tower for a great 
overall view. 

Gettysburg National Cemetery where Lincoln's
Gettysburg Address was delivered 
on November 19, 1863.

Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, 
conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal. 
Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived 
and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battlefield of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that 
that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this. But, 
in a larger sense, we cannot dedicate -- we cannot consecrate -- we cannot hallow -- this ground. 
The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor 
power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here,
 but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here 
to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. 
It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us -- that from
 these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the
 last full measure of devotion -- that we here highly resolve that these dead 
shall not have died in vain -- that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom
 -- and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, 
shall not perish from the earth.

Peace, Love & Music

Old Trinity Church in Great Barrington, Massachusetts.

I surprised Scott and took him to 
The Guthrie Center on Friday. 
This is where "Alice's Restaurant" took place
which is the song and movie by Arlo Guthrie. 
Click on the link if you haven't heard the song
in a while. It is over 16 minutes long!
Can't leave out the VW Microbus!
Words of wisdom by Woody Guthrie.

Every Thursday they host a Hootenanny, 
 Wednesday they provide free community meals,
and Saturdays they have concerts. 
Can't forget they also host a Thanksgiving dinner.

Amazingly we were able to get two tickets to a sold
out concert at The Guthrie Center! 
Lucy Kaplansky from New York City was the artist. 
Our theme for this trip is "Go for it!". 
So we didn't give up.

 but we were blessed again!
 No photos were allowed during 
the concert so here is a link to see interior photos.
The music legends continue sharing the love and
 importance of music by starting an 
instrument loan program for the community.
Back to New York.
Cute photo opportunity along the highway 
to Bethel, New York.
The Museum at Bethel Woods tells the story of Woodstock.
It was cool, informative, and colorful.
There is a short movie that plays on the 
windshield as you sit in the seats. 
It is amazing how many albums Scott owns 
that were on display.
They highlight every performer from Woodstock
through displays, videos, and music.
So much to read in the museum but we had 
to include the information about 
Arlo Guthrie. This display also includes
information on The Old Trinity Church.
Here is where Woodstock took place.
Can you imagine 450,000 people here? Amazing!
We had so much fun at the museum and walking
around the field.

The Sweet, Beautiful, Creative and Old!

While in Montpelier, Vermont we stopped at
Morse Farm Maple Sugarworks.

The Woodshed Theatre is where we
watched a video about the maple syrup process.
Toured the processing facilities
and were able to walk up to see the maze of plastic 
tubes which is the modern way of collecting sap.

You have come to expect the unusual from our blog. 
Morse Farm also had some unusual "art".
Ben & Jerrys Ice Cream Factory was
 only a few miles away. 
Of course, we enjoyed some yummy ice cream. 
We have seen lots of hanging flower
 baskets on porches, businesses and
light post in many small towns.
So pretty!
Taking back roads is where we find some interesting
things like the Texas Falls. A chance to 
stretch our legs and see a beautiful waterfall.
Crossed Lake Champlain on our way to New York.
One of the reasons we love our campervan 
 is because it can fit just about anywhere. 
Thrilled to find a peaceful spot to camp, 
just south of Lake Placid.

North Creek is a small town in the Adirondack Mountains.
This cool mosaic project took 10 years and is 220 feet long. 
It depicts an ideal spring day in the Adirondack.
So fun and inviting,
 you just want to jump right in!
Amazing what can be accomplished
 when a community pulls together.
There were 2000 plus volunteers.
Do you need an idea on what to do with your old canoe?
More artistic talent along the backroads.

Never thought we would see a
490 million year old fossilized sea bottom!
