Back in Time at Colonial Williamsburg!

If you have been to Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia, 

we hope these photos will be a great reminder of your trip. 

If you haven't, we encourage you to go and plan

on buying the multi-day ticket. 

We went on a Thursday for 6 hours and 

then went back on Saturday for 5 hours.

They rotate what shops are open and you can't 

see everything in one day! 

Governor's Palace

Front lobby was designed to impress!

Carriage entrance around the back of the Governor's Palace 

is still pretty impressive!

As you can see it was an overcast day which

made it perfect to walk around this

 living community back in 1774.

This is a showing cradle. If you look how short the sides 

are you can tell that the baby would fall right out.

They make the items for Colonial Williamsburg and also

 sell them. Since they are hand made they are very expensive.

Be prepared for a lot of walking on cobblestone sidewalks! 

There is a bus on the outskirts that does have a few stops. 

One of the stops is the Art Museums. We did find it 

interesting to spend some time there also. 

If it is raining or you just need some time to cool off 

it is a great place to go.

Fun in the North Carolina Sun!

 

The sweet corn and peaches that we picked 

up at a local roadside market were delicious!

Here is one of our Harvest Host locations 

in Pikeville, North Carolina. Nice flat, peaceful place. 

You can't beat the view of looking over the vineyard. 

Harvest Host is where you can stay at wineries, farms, 

museums, breweries and more for a yearly membership.

You also purchase something from the business. 

Definitely beats campgrounds in our book.

The Mother Vine

The oldest grapevine in North America!

When you click on the link it will show you an aerial

view which is pretty impressive. 

It is located on Roanoke Island in Manteo.

Can you imagine the pressure, as the owner of the 

property, to not kill the vine?

We drove a few miles down the Cape Hatteras National 

Seashore and saw Bodie Island Lighthouse.

Not very far away is the 

Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kitty Hawk, NC.

This is the view from the visitor center where 

Wilbur and Orville Wright took their

world changing flights.

I nice little walk up Kill Devil Hill with

 the visitor center on the right side.

Did you know they used a launching rail 

and landed in the soft sand?

We spent several relaxing hours walking 

and collecting shells on Kitty Hawk Beach.

Congaree National Park South Carolina

 Congaree National Park

Explore the 2.4 mile loop boardwalk trail 

over the floodplain.

Because there were only a handful of people visiting 

this national park we saw two different skinks.

Five-lined skink with a blue tail.

We think that this is a Carolina Anole.

These are the "knees" from the roots of the 

Bald cypress trees. 

The mud, called Dorovan muck, is eight feet thick

and is why they built the boardwalk. 

Pileated Woodpecker

This Loblolly pine tree is over 150 feet tall!

We were blessed to see this Red-shouldered Hawk!

We enjoyed hiking through this park 

because of all the animals and it is a very unique place.

Yes, it was hot, humid and the sweat bees loved us. 

If you find yourself near Hopkins, South Carolina 

it is worth the visit.
